Moroni reminds us we must all stand before the judgement bar
and be judged by Him.
“Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer
thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the
sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring
thee into judgment” (Ecclesiastes 11:9).
“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall
speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” (Matthew 12:36).
“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father
with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works” (Matthew
16:27).
“And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him
not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one
that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the
last day” (John 12:47-48).
“Prepare your souls for that glorious day when justice shall
be administered unto the righteous, even the day of judgment, that ye may not
shrink with awful fear; that ye may not remember your awful guilt in
perfectness, and be constrained to exclaim: Holy, holy are thy judgments, O
Lord God Almighty—but I know my guilt; I transgressed thy law, and my
transgressions are mine; and the devil hath obtained me, that I am a prey to
his awful misery” (2 Nephi 9:46).
What which is filthy will remain filthy. “And he doth not
dwell in unholy temples; neither can filthiness or anything which is unclean be
received into the kingdom of God; therefore I say unto you the time shall come,
yea, and it shall be at the last day, that he who is filthy shall remain in his
filthiness” (Alma 7:21).
“And again, verily I say unto you, that which is governed by
law is also preserved by law and perfected and sanctified by the same.
“That which breaketh a law, and abideth not by law, but
seeketh to become a law unto itself, and willeth to abide in sin, and
altogether abideth in sin, cannot be sanctified by law, neither by mercy,
justice, nor judgment. Therefore, they must remain filthy still” (D&C
88:34-35).
The righteous will remain righteous, the happy will remain
happy; the unhappy will remain unhappy.
In verse 14, we again see similarities between Jacob’ s and
Moroni’s words.

Words

Moroni’s
Words
|
And it shall come to pass that when all men shall have passed
from this first death unto life, insomuch as they have become immortal, they
must appear before the judgment-seat of the Holy One of Israel; and
then cometh the judgment, and then must they be judged according to
the holy judgment of God (2 Nephi 9:15).
|
And then cometh the judgment of
the Holy One upon them; and then cometh the time that he that is filthy shall
be filthy still; and he that is righteous shall be righteous still; he that
is happy shall be happy still; and he that is unhappy shall be unhappy still”
(Mormon 9:14).
|
And assuredly, as the Lord liveth, for the Lord God hath
spoken it, and it is his eternal word, which cannot pass away, that they who
are righteous shall be righteous still, and they who are filthy
shall be filthy still; wherefore, they who are filthy are the devil
and his angels; and they shall go away into everlasting fire, prepared for
them; and their torment is as a lake of fire and brimstone, whose flame
ascendeth up forever and ever and has no end (2 Nephi 9:16).
|
And then cometh the judgment of the Holy One upon them;
and then cometh the time that he that is filthy shall be filthy still; and
he that is righteous shall be righteous still; he that is happy shall be
happy still; and he that is unhappy shall be unhappy still” (Mormon 9:14).

There is no other usage of the two phrases, in the same
verse, in all of our scriptures.[1]
Moroni addresses those who “have imagined up unto yourselves
a god who can do no miracles” (Mormon 9:15). Those who make this claim are
wrong. God’s miracles continue.
“And no one need say they shall not come, for they surely
shall, for the Lord hath spoken it; for out of the earth shall they come, by
the hand of the Lord, and none can stay it; and it shall come in a day when it
shall be said that miracles are done away; and it shall come even as if one
should speak from the dead” (Mormon 8:26).
“And now, my beloved brethren, if this be the case that
these things are true which I have spoken unto you, and God will show unto you,
with power and great glory at the last day, that they are true, and if they are
true has the day of miracles ceased” (Moroni 7:35).
“For I am God, and mine arm is not shortened; and I will
show miracles, signs, and wonders, unto all those who believe on my name” (D&C
35:8).
God’s works are “marvelous in our eyes” (Mormon 9:16). We
can never fully comprehend God’s works.
“Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou
hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in
order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can
be numbered” (Psalms 40:5).
“O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very
deep” (Psalms 95:5).
“But great and marvelous are the works of the Lord, and the
mysteries of his kingdom which he showed unto us, which surpass all
understanding in glory, and in might, and in dominion” (D&C 76:114).
