9 Yea, and there shall be many which shall teach after
this manner, false and vain and foolish doctrines, and shall be puffed up in
their hearts, and shall seek deep to hide their counsels from the Lord; and
their works shall be in the dark.
10 And the blood of the saints shall cry from the ground
against them.
11 Yea, they have all gone out of the way; they have
become corrupted.
12 Because of pride, and because of false teachers, and
false doctrine, their churches have become corrupted, and their churches are
lifted up; because of pride they are puffed up.
In the day when false churches are built, they will tech false and foolish doctrines. Ezekiel warned the Jews, “Thus saith the Lord God; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing” (Ezekiel 13:3). Samuel the Lamanite would warned the Nephites, “O ye wicked and ye perverse generation; ye hardened and ye stiffnecked people, how long will ye suppose that the Lord will suffer you? Yea, how long will ye suffer yourselves to be led by foolish and blind guides? Yea, how long will ye choose darkness rather than light?” (Helaman 13:29).
Chastising the scribes and Pharisees, the Savior told them,
“Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth
nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their
heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines
the commandments of men” (Matthew 15:7-9).
Paul would warn the Colossians,
“Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary
humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath
not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
“And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints
and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the
increase of God.
“Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of
the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
“Which are after
the doctrines and commandments of men, who teach you to touch not,
taste not, handle not; all those
things which are to perish with the using?
Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will worship,
and humility, and neglecting the body as to the satisfying the flesh, not in any honor to God (JST Colossians
2:18-22).
The blood of the saints that were killed will cry out from
the ground to the Lord.
“And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the
altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the
testimony which they held:
“And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord,
holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on
the earth?
“And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it
was said unto them, that they should crest yet for a little season,
until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as
they were, should be fulfilled” (Revelation 6:9-11).
Moroni2 warned us about secret combinations.
“And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret
combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation,
behold, they shall be destroyed; for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of
his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the
ground for vengeance upon them and yet he avenge them not.
“Wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these
things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and
suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built
up to get power and gain—and the work, yea, even the work of destruction come
upon you, yea, even the sword of the justice of the Eternal God shall fall upon
you, to your overthrow and destruction if ye shall suffer these things to be.
“Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these
things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation,
because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it,
because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust
for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up” (Ether 8:22-24).
The churches will be corrupted. Pride, false teachers and doctrines have
caused these churches to be corrupted.
“He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his
trust in the LORD shall be made [prosperous]” (Proverbs 28:25). The Savior warned the Nephites, “Beware of
false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are
ravening wolves” (3 Nephi 14:15).
